Job Description

As a Workshop Manager, you will play a very important role in one of the busiest and most pressurised roles within the branch.  You will be required to assign engineers to tasks ensuring productivity is maximised and that deadlines are adhered to. 

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and will thrive under pressure whist delivering unprecedented levels of customer service to both external and internal customers.

You will have responsibility for a team of Engineers and will be expected to manage workshop loading, utilisation, efficiency, productivity and quality of work. In addition, you will also have the ability to assist in conducting effective staff performance appraisals in order to offer support and feedback to key members of the Workshop team.

Undertake a range of management duties associated with the running of the workshop and production activities:

  • Working closely with senior management to achieve the highest possible customer satisfaction (both internal and external).
  • Focus on customer needs and satisfaction; set high standards for quality and quantity; monitors and maintains quality and productivity.
  • Schedule work to meet customer requirements, considering workshop utilisation, job complexity and parts availability.
  • Distribute and control work for engineers to maximise quality and overall efficiency.
  • Ensure a strong relationship is maintained with the Parts department to maximise parts availability.
  • Awareness of financial KPI’s of the service department recording daily / weekly / monthly engineer’s productivity / efficiencies.
  • Review Engineer performance with Regional Service Manager.
  • Schedule weekly team briefs on workload.
  • Review engineer headcount requirements on a monthly basis.
  • Complete all PDRs as per schedule.
  • Maintain branch facility to high standards.
  • Monitor costs on all jobs throughout the workshop process and reduce where possible.
  • Warranty Claims reviewed and monitored for all Workshop jobs where applicable.
  • Ensure all claims are reviewed prior to submission and are processed within set timescales.  Monitor rejections and manage for continuous improvement.
  • Target to have all new equipment completed within the required month, and ache set PDI prep times.
  • Target to schedule the completion of all used equipment within 6 weeks of receipt of works order.
  • Target to meet all demonstration requests within time scale requested on works order.
  • Maximise Jobs per Day by ensuring appropriate headcount and training are in place.
  • Ensure 100% of returned STR and LTR machines are inspected and tagged accordingly.
  • Ensure 100% of damage documented, quoted and recovered.  Monthly date to be presented accordingly.
  • Ensure all thorough Examinations are completed on time (Rental, Demos etc.)
  • Maintain a high level of communication with all internal departments.
  • Follow up on customer complaints and ensure root causes and corrective actions are identified and implemented as required.
  • Establish strong reporting routines for your direct reports.
  • Weekly production report volume and cost.
  • Ensure a clean WIP clearing down with office and team weekly.
  • Ensure all PDI reports are submitted direct upon completion.
  • Promote a safe workplace for all by your actions.
  • Ensure regular checks of tools are maintained and recorded.
  • Reduce incidents at work by establishing root causes.
  • Ensure product incidences / issues are reported promptly and all documentation completed within Crown’s procedures and policies.

 

Person Specification

Essential Skills:

 

  • Recent and relevant experience (minimum of 5 years) of working in the forklift truck service environment.
  • Significant previous experience of managing a team.
  • Must hold full UK Driving Licence.
  • Flexibility is essential in this key role within the Service Department and critical to achieving both first time fix and high standards of customer satisfaction.
  • Outstanding individual whose enthusiastic, positive approach will encourage exceptional levels of work and efficiency from the workshop
  • Solid mechanical engineering and vehicle maintenance background.
  • Proven background of working within a time critical environment.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to work hands on all the time.
  • Understanding of the need to continually learn about our products.
  • Positive work ethic and flexible attitude.
  • Strong training and mentoring skills.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of value for money.
  • Experience of Health & Safety requirements working in a workshop practice.
  • Commitment to continuing personal and professional development.
  • Proficient in fault finding and repair.
  • Excellent organisational skills, resourceful and solution driven.
  • A high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.

Vacancy Details

 

Hours of Work:

Monday to Thursday – 08:00am to 4:30pm with 30 minutes lunch.

Friday - 08:00am to 4:00pm with 30 minutes lunch

Target Salary:

Highly competitive salary dependent on experience.

Company Vehicle:

A company van and fuel card are provided with the option for private use (provided the tax is paid).

Holidays:

25 days holiday.
